Shoveling and skating options

Jan.13, 2021

Good Day Chief Taylor students!

We are supposed to get a lot of snow today and possibly above freezing temperatures, so it will be fun to get outside and play in it!  First off shovel off your porch and entrance sidewalk.

OPTION 1: I have skates and somewhere to skate.  Clear a nice area to skate and practice your skating.  If you have a stick and puck work on your stickhandling skills.  If you have family members or a few friends have a pick up hockey game for fun.

OPTION 2: No skates and nowhere to skate but have a hockey stick and a puck of some sort.  Practice your stick handling skills in the back yard or on a quiet street.  You may have to clear yourself a bit of a rink/ play area.  Find a couple of friends and play a pick up hockey game for fun.

OPTION 3: No skates, stick or puck. Be a good neighbor and shovel your neighbors porch and sidewalk.  Build a snow fort, or snow sculpture in your yard.  The snow sculpture can be anything from an animal, a shape or even a snowman.  Be creative...have fun!

OPTION 4: Choose an activity to do from the Kids fitness tab, or juggling tab.

Fitness Circuit Workout Plan

 Hi Chief Taylor Students!

Dec. 14-18

This week you are going to make your own fitness circuit.  In the video below there are some ideas you can use or you can come up with your own ideas for exercises.  Be creative, use things you have around the house to jump over, lift etc.

Now, make an exercise circuit at your house for yourself either outside or inside. You should try to have at least 6 exercises in your circuit.  Try vary the body part being used...for example.  I am jumping in my first exercise (using my legs) so in my second exercise I will do curl ups (use my stomach muscles) in the next exercise I might use my legs again or another body part.  This allows me to rest and not overuse one part!

In your circuit you will be exercising for 30 seconds and then resting for 15 seconds.  Then you will be doing the second exercise in your circuit for 30 seconds and resting for 15 seconds and so on.  Once you are finished all the exercises start them again.  I would like you to do 3 rounds/sets of your circuit.

Use this circuit timer to help you know when to stop exercising and move to the next exercise.  You will have to drag the red line at the bottom back to the start after each round.

When you are finished your exercise circuit complete this form so you can get marks for your work. Click on your class room number for the right form.

Winter Bowling!

 Hi, Chief Taylor Students!

Dec. 9th to 11th

On Monday you were asked to freeze 10 cans or bottles with water and one round balloon.  By now they should be solid ice.  You will need those supplies for this activity.  If you didn't see Mondays post then just use 10 cans or bottles and a ball for this activity.

Today you will be building your own bowling alley in your yard.

1. Start with the bowling lane. Either use a shovel to level and flatten out a long lane or walk and pack down a nice lane with your feet.  The lane should be at least 8 to10 steps long and 2 steps wide.

2. Next, set up your 10 bowling pins(cans or bottles frozen if possible) on one end of the lane.

If you could only find 5 cans or bottles you will play 5 pin bowling.  The points for the pins and set up are as shown in the picture below.

3. Make a score card for yourself and your opponent.

4. Let's Bowl!! Stand at the other end of the lane and ROLL your frozen balloon ball or another ball you have and see if you can knock down all 10 pins. You have 3 tries to knock down all the pins.  As you knock some down move them out of the way.  Once you have had 3 tries your turn is over, if all the pins get knocked down before you have had all 3 tries set them up again and keep counting your score!  Now you should calculate your score and record it.  You can play against yourself or someone else that lives at your house. A whole game consists of 10 frames (10 turns).  If you don't want to keep score for a whole game you can pretend a new game starts after each person has had 3 tries in a row.  At the end of the 10 frames total up the points from all 10 boxes.  The person with the highest score wins.

Scoring- if it takes 3 tries to have all 10 pins knocked down you score 10 points or if you knocked down less than 10 pins you will score that number.  I knock down 5  pins total I get 5 points.

SPARE- knock down all pins with only 2 tries this is worth 10 points plus the number of points you score with  your next turn. I knock down 3 pins with my next turn. My score is 13 points for this turn.

STRIKE- knock down all 10 pins with 1 try.  This is worth 10 points plus the total points from my next two tries. I knock down 3 pins with my second try and 5 with my third try.  My score for this turn is 18 points.

Animal Tracks

Hi Chief Taylor Students!

Dec. 7th

For your Physical Education class today, I would like you to go for a walk and see how many different kinds of animal tracks you can spot.  Who can find a rabbit track? a deer track? a mouse track? a dog track? a cat track? a bird track?  a fox track? a horse track? a human track? Challenge yourself to find as many as you can.

Here are a few examples of some animal tracks you may find.

After your walk fill out the form below. Remember to click on the SUBMIT button when you are finished!

Now I need you to find 10 cans or bottles that you can fill 3/4 full with water AND 1 round balloon, fill the balloon with water so it will keep it's round shape.  Once you add the water leave them OUTSIDE to freeze for until Wednesday...you will be needing these items for Wednesday's assignment.  If you can't find 10 you can use 5 cans or bottles.  If you don't have a round balloon you will need to find a ball.
